"#EnglandTouch would like to say a huge congratulations to all the attendees on this weekend's Level 1 Touch Europe Referees course in Norwich. Thanks to Uma Ramaswami for facilitating, it's great to see so many new people getting involved in our sport."
On 17th July 2015 girls and boys from small primary schools across Norfolk took to the field to compete in a Touch Rugby tournament. Touch Rugby (Touch) is an invasion game played by mixed teams. It's like rugby league but the tackle is replaced with a light touch. Size and strength are not factors in Touch so smaller children have a chance to shine. It's fast, fun and inclusive so is perfect for schools. Recognising these benefits, Touch has now been shortlisted for potential inclusion in the 2016 Norfolk Summer Schools Games.
All the children competing at the tournament had been through a six week training programme which was delivered by coaches from the Norfolk Touch Association.
The standard of play was extremely high and the children showed great spirit and fair play throughout. The final was a north v south affair between Langham school and Spooner Row. It was a very close and exciting game that was decided by a late Langham touchdown. The tournament was supported by Active Norfolk who provided the medals and promotion for the event. Lakenham Hewett Rugby club kindly provided use of their ground and facilities. Norwich Rebels coaches and medical team together with Luke Phoenix, provided essential support throughout the day. The medals were presented by England International player Soul Phoenix who is also the England Touch Association Development Manager for Norfolk. Soul commented that there was "An incredible level of skill on display at Norfolk Touch Association's first ever Primary Schools Tournament. The kids all enjoyed themselves with big smiles all around."
Children from school years 4, 5 and 6 will be able to try Touch at Eaton Park throughout the summer holidays. Details can be found at www.norwichrebels.com or by emailing Russell House

Anyone wishing to try Touch Rugby can do
so with Norwich Rebels. Training sessions are held on Tuesdays from 6pm and Sundays from 10am at Eaton Park Norwich. Beginners and players of all abilities are welcome. The first session is free and subsequent sessions are just £1.
Special women-only beginners sessions have been launched by the Rebels, with support in the form of a grant from Sportivate. The aim has been to encourage more women to take up the sport, this so far has included a number of successful events in North and South Norfolk, starting in October 2014 and carrying through in to 2015. Most recently, in April 2015, six free sessions at Eaton Park had a fantastic turn out with a number of new women players from these sessions now joining the Rebels Club. As well as playing regularly in our Tuesday and Sunday training sessions, there have been opportunities for these new players to participate in competitive matches.
Further future women-only beginner sessions are planned so contact the club if you are interested, or keep an eye on the website for details, or even come along to one of our regular training sessions – you'll be made very welcome!
